History

Located in Allegheny County, Ross Township is in an area with a distinctive history. The regions history back to the early Commonwealth days of Pennsylvania. The township was settled in 1809 when John McKnight and 30 other residents of Pine Township petitioned for a new township that they could call their own. The area was termed "Ross Township" after a notable attorney from Pittsburgh named James Ross.
